A study of: god's gift of color!
For those of you who don't know me (Mrs. Stam!) well, one of my passions, besides teaching, is art! In high school I was in art every year, and many of my classmates thought I should be an art teacher! While in college, I had hoped to add an art minor to my education major, but my middle school endorsement required so many classes that I didn't have the time to add the art minor. So, what do I do with my art now? I teach it to first graders!
Every year, I dream of creating an art curriculum for my class that teaches both art theory and technique, while at the same time inspiring kids to love using those skills and their imaginations to create beautiful pieces!
This year, I am making progress on this dream! I have done a color unit with my first graders in years past, but not to the extent that I wanted to; but this year might be the year!
We are studying God's gift of color these first nine weeks. We've learned about the color wheel, warm colors, and cool colors. We've also talked about primary and secondary colors, as well as complimentary colors. I am hoping in these next few weeks to do some projects with those last topics. So far we have created our own color wheels and used magazines to find warm and cool colors for our collages.
I am hoping to keep all these projects at school until we are done with this unit, and then I will *hopefully* get them assembled into books for the kids to bring home! Again, I have never gotten this far and fancy with this unit, but I am so enjoying it! Check back in the coming weeks for more pictures of our works of art!
